BARTLETT LANDING SCHOOL

(Picture unavailable. Unless someone out there has one ???)

In 1857 Samuel Morrison homesteaded the area which includes the present day town of Lucerne. When his children became old enough (probably about 1867) for school, he established a private school to teach them and the children of a couple of the neighbors. This was located in the canyon back of what is now Circle Court. The teacher received $12 a month plus room & board. Shortly after that the Lakeshore School District was formed (See Lakeshore School page) and a public school established. The school moved several times, one site being at the corner of present Highway 20 and Bartlett Springs Road. It also had problems at times for lack of students. At one time, Sam would send his 3 year old to attend school to boost the student count. The school finally lapsed in the 1880s.
